Proposing marriage is a big deal and grooms are putting more and more thought into planning the most romantic proposal possible. An engagement is a significant event and it will ultimately become a story the couple shares with friends and family for years to come.
Because this is such a special event, creating romantic proposals is well worth the time and effort for today’s groom.
But how does a groom make this memorable occasion as remarkable as it should be? By doing it in a special location, proposing in a unique way, and executing it at an unexpected time so it is a complete surprise to the intended bride.
My Tips for Creating a Romantic Marriage Proposal
One of the most special marriage proposal locations imaginable is on a beautiful beach of a Caribbean island. The unexpected time is easy to arrange. The special, unique way you propose requires more thought but don’t worry, help is available!
Here are three great ideas for creating memorable marriage proposals:
- The proposal could be done at a candlelight dinner on the beach and could include a cake with ‘Will You Marry Me?’ on it.
- The groom could book a beautiful beachfront room and write ’Will You Marry Me? ’ in the sand early in the morning.
- The groom could hire a plane fly over with a banner saying ‘Jane (or whomever) Will You Marry Me?’.
The options are unlimited.
Recently I saw a couple climb the beautiful YS Falls in Jamaica. As they were wading through one of the pools along the way, the groom suddenly got down on one knee in the water and pulled out a ring. Fortunately neither of them dropped the ring!
One idea that is gaining popularity is to make the proposal in front of families and friends. Going to a Caribbean destination disguised as a family vacation, or perhaps a surprise birthday party for someone in the group, would be an ideal time to turn it into a surprise marriage proposal.
Are you looking for the perfect place to pop the question? Do you have a dream location for that momentous occasion?
I have been very fortunate over the past thirty years to have helped many prospective bride grooms create special trips to the perfect setting for them to get down on one knee and pledge themselves forever to that special person with whom they wish to share their lives.
One of my favorite trips is to help a couple get engaged in a dream location that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Here are some of the favorite places I have recommended.
Paris
What’s not to like about the most romantic city in the world? One young man took his love to the top of the Eiffel Tower and asked for her hand in marriage overlooking the beautiful city. Another asked the question on a Seine River Cruise, and still another in a small Parisian café. I keep up with the grandest hotels but my favorite ones for this occasion are the small hotels that are very French in their atmosphere. The Latin Quarter has some lovely ones with lots of nightlife. Another young man took his lady for just a long weekend in Paris in order to ask her to marry him, because of the limited time they had available.
Disney World
I have had many couples get engaged at Walt Disney World. What could be more magical than a romantic proposal at The Castle, especially at night? Others have done it during the fireworks or during Illuminations at Epcot. Another lovely place is at Victoria and Albert’s, a fantastic restaurant at the Grand Floridian. There are so many special places at the onsite resorts and the parks.
Beach Destinations
Whether it is in driving distance, or accessible by a flight to the tropics, a beautiful beach and ocean serves as a wonderful backdrop for this moment. It is so romantic for a man to get down on one knee on the beach when there is no one else around.
Cruise Ships
Many like to propose on a cruise ship that goes to several Islands. This helps the couple choose an Island for their honeymoon or destination wedding. The Cruise Director can help make the moment special, such as the time the entire theater heard Brian ask Michelle to be his wife prior to the evening’s scheduled entertainment.
Chateau Lake Louise
This beautiful, grand old hotel in the Canadian Rockies served as the setting on a very cold Valentine’s Day with a sizzling fireplace, snow outside the window and roses and champagne to complete the picture. The couple had a wonderful, cozy week to plan their new life together.
